Therapy, in it’s many forms, all has a single ultimate goal. That goal is autonomy. Autonomy is self-directed freedom: the freedom to enjoy life, the freedom to love and be loved, the freedom to find your individual gifts and successfully use them. Many factors that work against that one goal, including trauma, grief, loneliness, depression, shame, anxiety disorders, and debilitating addictions. The job of therapy is to help each individual discover their meaning of autonomy, and then find what blocks that goal. When this is achieved, we clear a path to enjoy healthy beliefs, emotions, and behaviors. Enjoying life and finding contentment are possible, and it begins with caring about yourself and believing in yourself.
